Is Fitbit the new Facebook?

Staying healthy is on everyone’s mind at the new year. I Recently bought my girlfriend on for christmas and then after about a week of seeing her count her steps, track sleep and how much water she is drinking i had to get one. About a week later we both had one and were competing for most steps in a day, workweek and weekend.

Another thing I noticed is that i hadn’t logged in to Facebook since i bought a Fitbit. A few friends had them and i added them as Fitbit friends. Then I joined a group of people in Dallas that had Fitbits and I can see how I compare to them n step count. Now my social media is set around how many steps I can do in a day and how active my friends are doing.

I like to see how my sleep affects my day.  I really do struggle mentally with less sleep.  I now compete with the girlfriend on how much sleep I can get in a night.  I have seen my resting heart rate go down from 67 BPM to 55 BPM. I look at this thing on my wrist and get excited when it buzzes knowing that i just completed my step goal.

I guess realistically Fitbit won’t replace Facebook but for me it has created a new social media that is focused on getting active. I think I’m going to start a Trulos Fitbit group. I wonder how long it will be before some of our users join in.
